The HBS Health Industry Alumni Association (HBS Health Alumni) is organized around an industry and was officially incorporated on May 31, 2000 after a formative year by Bunny Ellerin. Over the past eight years, the membership of HBS Health has grown to over 500 alumni involved in all sectors of the international healthcare industry and we have organized and sponsored numerous educational and networking events. The crown jewel of our Association is the Annual Health Industry Alumni Conference held each November in Boston. The past eight conferences featured prominent speakers and leaders from corporations, government, research, academia, and the media.
HBS has positioned itself as the leading business school in healthcare in the U.S.. In May, 2008 HBS demonstrated its preeminent role in a conference uniquely dedicated to healthcare as part of this year’s Centennial Celebration. Dean Jay Light has assigned two important priorities on the agenda for HBS: Healthcare and Globalization. These two topics coincide with our focus, when we organize our conferences providing a forum for a fruitful dialogue with leaders in the international healthcare arena. Our leadership enjoys a close collaboration with the Healthcare Initiative led by Professor Richard Hamermesh, the faculty, and students who are part of the healthcare sector.
We have built an organization that has achieved a recognized place in the healthcare debate. To serve as the President of the HBS Health Industry Alumni Association is a challenging task. Despite many achievements and its multitude of strengths, this organization has yet to fully reach its potential. I will build on the achievements reached under my predecessor Bob DeNoble and will focus on these opportunities. I envision strengthening our ties first with HBS and building a strong relationship with Harvard Medical School, where I serve on the faculty. Our colleagues in the affiliated teaching hospitals, research institutions, and the cluster of the life sciences industry have all a strong stake in the healthcare arena. This is what unites us and predestines Boston as the epicenter of the Life Sciences and Medicine. Therefore we can find a common ground and provide a forum for the healthcare debate. Our greatest assets are the amazing people at HBS, the Harvard Life Sciences and Medical community, and Harvard University as a whole.
I am looking forward with great anticipation to serving our association and each member as President, to interacting with you and working with you to foster healthcare in the best interest of our nation and the world.
Wolfgang Klietmann, M.D., OPM12
