The HBS Health Industry Alumni Association is an independent, not-for-profit corporation. While the organization is fully sanctioned by the Harvard Business School Alumni Affairs Office, it is run as an independent entity by alumni on a voluntary basis.

Harry Atkins, MBA '92
Harry has been a member and supporter of the HBS Health Industry Alumni Association since its founding in 1999 and has attended each of its annual conferences since its inception. In 2008 he started the first activity for HBS Health in the Philadelphia biopharm cluster, beginning what is hoped to be increasing involvement in programs by industry-leading HBS alums working in the area stretching from Wilmington DE in the south to Princeton NJ in the north. He lives with his wife and 2 children in Swarthmore, PA.
Professionally, Harry is a Senior Director heading the Alliance Management function at Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company which has a business model strongly dependent upon a variety of alliances to accomplish its goals. He works closely with heads of Commercial Business, R&D and Operations to deliver the business results needed from company alliances. Harry joined Endo in 2005 from Pharmos Corp., where he was vice president, marketing and business development. Previously, he has held marketing positions at Berlex Laboratories, Eisai, Inc., and Lederle International. His commercialization work on five products includes experience as the product launch manager for ARICEPT®, which was launched under a Global Strategic Alliance with Pfizer Inc. and remains today as the worldwide leading therapy for Alzheimer's Disease.
A former nuclear submarine officer who reached the rank of Commander, Harry received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the United States Naval Academy (Annapolis), completed certification as a Nuclear Propulsion Plant Senior Supervisor from General Electric Company’s Knolls Atomic Power Lab while an officer in the U.S. Navy, and then received an MBA from Harvard University. He is a member of the Global Board of Directors of the Association of Strategic Alliance Professionals (ASAP).
Jean-Bernard Borfiga, PMD 33
JB has been a leader in diversification strategies, venture capital, biotechnology, and management of technology-based companies. He is Head of the Scientific Collaboration and Business Development at Les Laboratoires Servier, a leading French pharmaceutical company. Prior to that, he was VP of Business Development at Zynaxis Cell Science, and was Founder, Chairman and CEO of BioEurope. He received an MS from Paris University (Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Paris), and Major of the Promotion from Institut d’Administration des Entreprises de Paris.
He received the French National Order of Merit, the country’s highest civilian decoration, for his many services rendered to the healthcare industry

Robert DeNoble, MBA '72
Bob is the President/CEO of the Marino Foundation for Integrative Medicine, including the Marino Centers for Progressive Health. The mission of the Marino Foundation is to integrate scientifically and empirically demonstrated conventional and complementary healing traditions to improve the health and wellness of patients served and to extend knowledge to others through health education, training and research.
In addition to his leadership of the Marino Foundation, Bob is a senior advisor, co-owner and founder of RDA Healthcare Consulting, LLC, a consulting firm focused on finance, strategy, and operations or healthcare provider organizations. He serves on the board of the Austen Riggs Center, a unique psychiatric hospital located in Western Massachusetts. As chair of the Finance Committee for many years, he helped guide the institution to financial health.
Bob was one of the founding Directors of the Harvard Business School Health Industry Alumni Association, served as chair of co-chair of the annual conference from 2000 to 2004, and as President from 2005 to present.
Bunny Ellerin, MBA '94
Bunny founded the HBS Health Industry Alumni Association in 1999 and served as its president through 2004. She led HBS Health's growth into a major HBS alumni force with more than 650 active members, an industry-shaping annual conference, and special events and programs to help members network and maintain industry leadership.
Professionally, Bunny is a Managing Director in the New York office of Intebrand Wood Healthcare, (IBW), a global strategy consultancy dedicated to naming, positioning, and building brands within the healthcare industry. The company is part of Interbrand, a portfolio company of media giant Omnicom. Within IBW, Bunny runs the brand research and intelligence division called RxMark. Clients include leading pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology companies.
Prior to joining IBW, Bunny ran the Online Marketing and Education division of PPD, Inc. (NASDAQ: PPDI), which she joined when PPD acquired Clinsights, a company she helped create and grow. Clinsights was formed in 2000 to provide post-market services to companies in the life sciences to assist in the promotion and adoption of new medical technologies by physicians. Offerings included web-enabled post-market registries, online product detailing, physician education tools and market research. Bunny was recruited to Clinsights to create and implement the company's operation strategy. She subsequently took on marketing and business development to drive top line growth, and retains P & L responsibility for her division.
Previously, Bunny spent 5 years in the physician practice management (PPM) industry, first as Director of Operations with Advanced Health Corporation (NASDAQ: ADVH) and then as Vice President, Northeast Operations for Vivra Specialty Partners. Bunny received a BA in Political Science from Columbia University and an MBA from Harvard University.
Margery Fischbein, MBA '80
Margery Fischbein is EVP and Head of M&A for Paramount BioSciences, a venture capital firm located in NY. Previously Margery had been Head of Business Development, Strategic Planning & Alliance Management and a member of the Operating Committee at Human Genome Sciences, and the Head of Business Development at ImClone Systems.
Prior to entering the biotechnology industry, Margery had been a Managing Director in M&A at major Wall St. firms covering the chemicals, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology industries. She is a graduate of Harvard University and Harvard Business School. Margery and her husband live in Hoboken, NJ.
David Green, MBA '91
David graduated from Oxford University, England in 1985 with an honours degree in physics. From 1985 to 1989 he was a brand manager for consumer goods such as Lux and Shield soaps for Lever Brothers (Unilever) in London. In 1989 he moved to the USA and graduated with distinction from Harvard Business School in 1991.
From 1991 to 1995 David was a strategy consultant with Monitor Company in Cambridge, MA and Johannesburg, South Africa. Corporate strategy work included profit and revenue growth initiatives for global clients in the aerospace, retail, life insurance and platinum mining industries. The South African work was advising the newly democratic government on national competitiveness (based on Porter’s Competitive Advantage of Nations) and increasing GDP growth rate. He personally presented the work to ministers and the Cabinet. In addition, David ran all of Monitor’s worldwide training programmes.
In late 1995 David returned to the USA and put together the venture backed deal that created Harvard Bioscience (which began as Harvard Apparatus at Harvard Medical School in 1901) becoming President and a Director. The products are used to advance life science research at virtually all pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and research universities worldwide. The company went public in December 2000. Harvard Bioscience has grown from $9m in revenues in 1996 to approximately $90m in 2006 through a combination of organic growth and acquisitions and is highly profitable.
David lives in Dover, MA with his wife Diane, who is also a healthcare entrepreneur, their three children and approximately 50 fruit trees. When not raising companies, children or trees he enjoys playing rock guitar. He is a citizen of the United Kingdom and permanent resident of the United States.
Linda Greub, MBA '87
Linda Greub currently advises companies on M&A activities. Recently she worked on the pending sale of Applied Biosystems to Invitrogen. While at Applied Bio, she also completed the cash acquisitions of Ambion Inc. and Agencourt Personal Genomics. Previously, Linda worked as an equity research analyst and/or portfolio manager for investment banks and hedge funds, including Banc of America Securities, Pacific Growth Equities, Tudor Investment Corporation and Essex Investment Management. She has covered a number of industries including biotechnology, healthcare services, specialty pharmaceuticals and medical devices. She earned a BA in History of Art from Yale University in 1982 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1987, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Anula Jayasuriya, MD, PhD, MBA '93
Anula Jayasuriya is a life science venture capitalist. Anula is the co-founder of the “Evolvence India Life Science Fund” (EILSF), established in 2006 to make investments in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device and related contract service companies based in India. The fund has had a final closing of US $ 90 million.
She was previously a partner with Skyline Ventures in Palo Alto, and prior to that with the German – US venture capital firm TVM, in San Francisco.
Anula’s expertise consists of a unique combination of business, basic science and medical knowledge. Her prior positions include VP-Corporate development at Genomics Collaborative Inc., and Vice President, Global Drug Development at Hoffman-La Roche for opportunistic infections in AIDS and Transplantation.
Anula received a BA from Harvard summa cum laude, and an MD and PhD (in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics) from Harvard Medical School. She interned in Pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital and received an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School. Anula also has a M. Phil. in pharmacology from the University of Cambridge, England.
Wolfgang Klietmann, MD, OPM 12
Dr. Klietmann is President and Medical Director of Mediconsulting, Inc., President of the Harvard Business School Health Industry Alumni Association, and was Co-Chair and Co-Organizer of the Annual HBS Health Industry Conferences and other educational events since 2000.
In addition to heading an international healthcare consulting company, Wolfgang is an appointed Lecturer in Pathology at Harvard Medical School. Previously on staff of the Department of Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital, he also performed research as an Associate Scientist at the Wistar Institute of the University of Pennsylvania, headed a research group at the Max Planck Institute for Virus Research, and served on the medical faculty of the University of Tuebingen.
Wolfgang was Founder and Physician-in-Chief of a leading Institute of Laboratory Medicine in Germany. He received his medical education at the University of Freiburg (Germany) and at the Sorbonne and the University of Paris Medical School (France). He is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists.
Jesus Martin-Garcia, MBA '89
Jesús Martin-Garcia is the CEO of Eclosion, a seed investment fun in life sciences based in Switzerland. He has a BS in Businesses Administration and a BA in Law from University of Geneva. In 1989, he graduated with an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
Jesús Martin-Garcia started a consulting career at McKinsey & Co., where he led strategy and organizational studies with teams of client executives and McKinsey consultants. Studies under direct responsibility included international restructurings, corporate process re-design and operational turn-arounds in the Food and Pharma industries.
In 1993, Jesús became a Founding Partner of Value Management Group (VMG), a consulting and investment boutique focused on telecoms and new technologies. Jesús advises medium-size European Telcos on key strategic issues related to fixed and mobile business development, M&A and regulatory policy. Since 1995, Jesús has co-founded, invested seed capital and supported the development of several technology-focused start-ups in the Lake Geneva region. In 1997, he was for example the co-Founder of Le Shop, Switzerland’s largest e-commerce company and one of the few European survivors in this field.
Thomas Robinson, MBA '89
Tom Robinson is the leader of Spencer Stuart's Global Medical Technology Practice and is an active member of the Board Services and Biotechnology Practices. Building upon 20 years of industry experience in top healthcare companies, he leads senior level searches in these three areas for clients ranging from startups to Fortune 100 companies.
Tom is a recipient of the firm’s Lou Rieger Award for outstanding client work, and has been the quality officer for the firm’s Boston office for the past few years.
Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Tom was president of the emerging markets business at Boston Scientific Corporation, responsible for all markets in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Canada. He also was president of Brunswick Biomedical, a cardiology startup, and general manager of a business unit of Cardinal Health. Tom started his healthcare career at American Hospital Supply Corporation, where he held various sales and marketing positions within the V. Mueller operating room division.
Tom is on the board of directors of Cynosure, a Nasdaq-listed public medical laser company where he serves as chairman of the compensation committee. He also is on the board of directors of Sanuwave, a privately held orthopedics company, and the advisory board of ADVAMED, the medical device industry association for North America.
Tom received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and his B.A. in mathematics and economics from Brown University. He played varsity baseball and basketball during his years at Brown.
Lee Steele, MBA '73
Lee is a Financial Leadership Partner in the New England Practice of Tatum, LLC, the largest executive services and financial leadership firm in the US. He is one of the founding Partners for Tatum’s New England office and is Co-Head of Tatum’s Northeast Life Sciences Practice.
His thirty-year career includes Consulting Partner at Deloitte & Touche, CFO for several public and private entrepreneurial/tech/biotech companies (including American Science and Engineering, Inc. and Ariad Pharmaceuticals), and numerous interim CFO and financial leadership assignments for tech, biotech, med tech, and diagnostics clients.
In addition, Lee is a Director, the Audit Committee Chair, and member of the Nominating and Governance Committee for Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. (NASDQ: MRCY). He is also a Director, Corporate Treasurer, and Audit Committee Chair of the Mass. Tech. Development Corp., a venture investing firm; a Board Member and past President of the Harvard Business School Association of Boston.
Steve Wardell, MBA '00
Steve Wardell is a health-industry business development and corporate finance professional with transactional and company-building experience in e-health, health services, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical devices. At IC Sciences he runs the Office of Corporate Development and Finance, where he leads growth initiatives, supports new business development initiatives, and provides financial leadership and oversight for ICS and its e-health operating units.. He is also a Managing Director of ICS Development Corp., the venture capital subsidiary of IC Sciences, and Statutory Secretary of the company.
Before joining IC Sciences, he was Senior Director of Business Development and Vice President of Finance for Artisan Pharma, Inc., a Phase III, Boston-based biotech start-up. Prior to Artisan Pharma, Inc., he was a Principal at Apeiron Partners, a Boston-based health-industry investment bank and venture capital fund. He has also worked on Wall Street, where he participated in over $20 billion worth of M&A and financing transactions at Citigroup (Salomon Smith Barney) in the healthcare, technology, and industrial sectors.
Steve holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MPhil in Economics from Cambridge University, and a BA from Harvard College. He lives in Cambridge, MA, with his wife and son.
